At Mount Roskill Grammar School our junior curriculum is designed to give our students the foundation knowledge, skills and dispositions that they need for success in secondary school. We aim to provide a broad range of subjects while maintaining the development of Literacy and Numeracy skills as a central focus. From year 9 onwards students are encouraged to choose from a range of subjects to explore a variety of options before they specialise in later years. What subjects do we offer at junior levels?
At MRGS we will keep students and their caregivers informed about their progress at school. This diagram shows how curriculum levels typically relate to years at school. By the end of Year 10 we are aiming for students to be working confidently at level 5 of the New Zealand curriculum.
Many students do not, however, fit this pattern. They include those with special learning needs, those who are gifted, and those who come from non- English-speaking backgrounds.
Students learning an additional language are also unlikely to follow the suggested progression: level 1 is the entry level for those with no prior knowledge of the language being learned, regardless of their school year.
